City Engineer

Mott Associates has been serving as the City Engineer for the City of Somers Point since January 2007.

The City of Somers Point is located in the eastern part of Atlantic County, southwest of Atlantic City. Somers Point has a total area of 5.2 square miles, of which, 4.0 square miles of it is land and 1.1 square miles of it is water. The City had an estimated population of 11,614 persons in 2000. All development in the City is subject to the jurisdiction of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) through the Coastal Areas Facilities Review Act (CAFRA) regulations.

General municipal engineering responsibilities have included the review of all applications for road openings, maintenance of the City's tax assessment maps, preparation of grant applications to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), Atlantic County Improvement Authority, and other governmental agencies.

Mott Associates has been responsible for the oversight and construction management of approximately $5 million per year of residential subdivision and commercial site plan improvements. These improvements include roads, sanitary sewer, storm water management facilities, concrete curb and sidewalk, landscaping, parking lots, and various other improvements. Mott Associates has designed and is managing the construction for over $1.1 million of capital improvement projects which include:

- Bay Avenue Drainage Improvements
- Marks Road Improvements
- FY 2007 Municipal Aid Program for Massachusetts Avenue Phase I
- FY 2008 Municipal Aid Program for Massachusetts Avenue Phase II
- East Atlantic Avenue Road Reconstruction
- FY 2009 Municipal Aid Program for Higbee Avenue





Bay Avenue Drainage Improvements

Mott Associates was responsible for the survey, design, and construction management of the drainage improvements to Bay Avenue. In particular, this project included removing two existing outfalls which were failing and therefore causing settlement of private property. The two outfalls were replaced with one new larger outfall cradled with Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) lumber piles which conformed to new environmental standards.


Municipal Aid Program for Massachusetts Avenue Phases I and II

Mott Associates was responsible for the survey, design, and construction management of the reconstruction of Massachusetts Avenue from Rt.9 to Exton Road. The project included the complete reconstruction of the roadway, including replacement of concrete curbs, driveways, handicap ramps, installation of drainage structures, upgrading of existing storm water structures, and traffic striping and markings including some cross-walks. A portion of this project was funded by the New Jersey Department of Transportation's Fiscal Year 2008 and 2009 Municipal Aid Program in the amount of $150,000 each year.


Marks Road Reconstruction

Mott Associates was also responsible for the survey, design, and construction management of the improvements to intersection of Marks Road and Bethel Roads. This project included the complete reconstruction of the intersection to provide a safe crossing for students' walks to and from school. This project is partially funded by the Atlantic County Community Block Grant Program for the amount of $67,258.


East Atlantic Avenue Reconstruction

Mott Associates was responsible for the survey, design, and construction management of the reconstruction of East Atlantic Avenue from Maryland Avenue to Ocean Avenue. The project included the complete reconstruction of the roadway, including replacement of concrete curbs, driveways, handicap ramps, installation of drainage structures, upgrading of existing storm water structures and traffic striping and markings including some cross-walks in front of the Dawes Avenue School.
